RYA Intermediate Day Navigation

Course Information

Powerboat Training - Intermediate Powerboat

The course will be conducted in our 7.5m Humber RIB with a Yamaha 200 4 stroke

Aim: To teach navigation skills in a powerboat by day.
Duration: Two days
Instructor to student ratio: 1:3
Times: The start time is 09:30 with an anticipated finish at around 17:00

The RYA Intermediate Powerboat is a practical course, however due to the navigation skills that need to be taught we must spend half of the first day and a small amount of the second day in the classroom.

At Guardian Marine the culmination of the course is that each student will be responsible for the navigation and safe passage of the vessel during their own section of a 30 to 50 mile journey.

What to bring with you on the course

Warm clothing. Suitable footwear for being on board a high speed craft such as deck shoes, sailing boots (not gardening wellies please or old trainers).

If you wish to use your own foul weather gear, please bring it.

A change of clothing, in case of emergency.

Lifejackets and waterproofs are provided.

Assumed knowledge

Boat handling to the standard of the Level 2 Powerboat Handling course. Knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory is recommended. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operators certificate.

Please note: If you are a bit rusty with your own boat handling skills arrange to get some practice before attending this course. Although you will be taught some new boat handling skills, this course is about teaching you navigation skills not basic boat handling.
